The Sinatra children knew him as Uncle Dean. He was warm and reliable, a big man with big hands, and he hugged like a bear. Though he had an air of authority, he was never intimidating—just the opposite, in fact. He loved to kid around. He approached young people at their level; he wasn’t your typical patriarch.
